The Autism Inclusive Badge is an initiative of City of York Council, run by Living Autism and awarded nationwide in the United Kingdom, showing that a service pays attention to the needs of autistic children and adults.
The badge is endorsed by City of York Council, Living Autism, TEWV Mental Health Foundation Trust and York St John University.
To gain the Autism Inclusive Badge there are two possible routes –
Route One
- One or more staff members attend the Living Autism Champions training
- Over the subsequent 6 months the Champions cascade autism learning to their teams
- The department/organisation/service evidences the following:
- Being aware of people’s sensory differences
- Providing a quiet area as a break-out space
- Have staff who are autism aware on site in case needed
- Provide clear and unambiguous direction and instructions
- Have clear time schedules, tiemtables and maps appropriate to your organisation
- Complete successfully the Autism Inclusive Badge self-assessment
Route Two
- Receive direct training for your department/organisation/service from a Living Autism approved trainer
- The department/organisation/service evidences the following:
- Being aware of people’s sensory differences
- Providing a quiet area as a break-out space
- Have staff who are autism aware on site in case needed
- Provide clear and unambiguous direction and instructions
- Have clear time schedules, tiemtables and maps appropriate to your organisation
- Complete sucessfully the Autism Inclusive Badge self-assessment
Once either Route One or Route Two are completed the Autism Inclusive Badge will be awarded with –
- An Autism Inclusive digital certificate
- An Autism Inclusive pin
- A digital logo for use on stationary or digital forms of communication
